How memory works - How do we and why do we sometimes not Remember

As you work your memory According to Professor of Neuroscience Antonio Damasio, was the old idea about memory, allowing you to experience something in all its aspects (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) and then these signals are sent to a particular region of the brain to be processed, interpreted and stored (remembered).

Today science understands, that in order to process the information to us in memory. From there, each part of what you see, converge at different points around the brain and then diverges, both will reset itself and other points around the brain.

To find out how memory works think you make at a party ... The perception that sounded like a person goes back to a point in the brain and then in a loop on itself, while the perception of where you were going at the time and another loop back on itself, both anchoring thoughts in all the places , it was within the brain.

The memory comes only when you reactivate these different parts of the brain to play the memory. In an interview with the BigThink organization, Damasio said:

So the idea that if you are prompted to recall a certain experience that you had today, where you talk to person A, hear the person's voice, but you are also in a certain context B - this is the context of a specific room in a specific building - you're going to have the separate recordings of the voice of the person, the sight of the person, the place.

But are these recordings will only be reactivated when another recording of the simultaneity of the event was carried out in a convergence divergence zone.

So, you send signals forward through convergence and divergence is then for what I call to make the process of retro activation. The retro-activation will take courses in different places at the same time as, or in rapid succession on the difference. Such as when we play music in our heads.

This convergence / divergence zones can be distributed throughout the brain and only if "Record" the entire event, as well as the composite parts, you can have a good memory of what happened.

It's a bit like creating the outline of a puzzle, and then it was filled with all parts of the experience.

Why your memory sometimes does not work And the discussion of how memory works, Professor Damasio explains why memories can often be wrong, despite our certainty that they are right:

You always try, at some approximation of what to get himself more as an accurate record of what went on. That's where the big difference between the recordings in the form of a photograph or in terms of a celluloid picture.

We are not like that. We do not have this - all the celluloid or Polaroid pictures submitted in somewhere and we not only want to play it in a screening room. We have something that is both far more complex, but at the same time far more economical and it also - to a certain degree because of the fragmentation - far more error-prone.

This goes a long way to explain why witnesses of events or crimes often differ wildly from one another.

Each person focused on other things as a result of their experience, and their stress and what they do. Than a threat

Consequently, 5 testimonies for an event could be anything else, because as Antonio says "because of its fragmentation, [his] far more prone to error."...
