4 reasons why women get yeast infections more than men

Yeast infections are caused by the fungus Candida albicans. Reside naturally in our body, it usually does not damage the body's good bacteria. If your body's good bacteria is managing to keep the bad bacteria at bay, we can say that your bacterial environment is balanced.

Under certain conditions, the bacterial environment can get out of balance, so that things like the Candida fungus can actually overgrow. When this happens, a yeast infection is the result.

The "certain conditions" that allow this to happen are things like hormonal imbalance, pH imbalance, high blood sugar levels, a lowered immune system and friendly bacteria depletion, and some drug therapy.

In addition to these is recognized that the fungus especially enjoys the warm, moist, dark areas of the body where it can survive and grow more easily.

It is a fact that women suffer more yeast infections than men. About 75% of women an infection at some point in their lives, with just over 50% with recurrent infections.

Compare that with the percentage of men 12 - 15% and you can see that it seems that women actually get more yeast infections than men.

However, many men are ignorant of the fact that they have a yeast infection because the symptoms in men may take longer to appear. And men may hesitate to go to their doctor the symptoms anyway. Taking this into account, it is reasonable to assume that the proportion of men may be higher than 12 - 15%.

However, the big difference in women's and men's yeast infections, where - even taking into account the understatement male figure - it is clear that women suffer more infections than men. But why? What is it about women that puts them at a higher risk of Candida?

To answer that we need to look at the underlying causes above. Three things stand as far as women are concerned and are hormonal imbalances and pH and sugar. And also to consider that the Candida fungus warm, moist, dark areas rather grow in. Let us look again ...

(1) hormonal imbalance There are many situations that can lead to hormonal imbalances in women, such as oral contraception, menstrual cycle, pregnancy, HRT, and so on. This clearly puts them at higher risk than men.
(2) vaginal pH imbalance Women use scented feminine hygiene products almost religiously and they tend to be much more showers as well. The problem is that these perfumed products, the pH in the vagina to change. When this happens, the area starts at the fungus, which then in turn may promote infection.
(3) vaginal environment Most yeast infections in women occur in the vagina. And it's easy to understand why to consider when you coupled loved about vaginal pH above the moist, warm, dark environment so the problem caused by Candida. Of course, this is puts them at a much higher risk than men.
(4) Sweet Tooth There are some studies that women can consume more sugar than men. One hypothesis for this is that the female of the type, a certain amount of body fat to keep has to maintain a healthy pregnancy. If this is true, then they have a built-in preference for high-calorie foods.

So there you have it, four reasons why more women than men yeast infections. And as you can see, generally speaking, it is women's biological differences that put them at higher risk than men. ......
